The essential way to pick up the basics of surfing and save a lot of frustration whilst learning to surf is to take part in surfing lessons. Surfing is the sport of kings, requiring only a board and a wetsuit it is the simplest and most enjoyable way of enjoying the diverse wave conditions and spectacular beaches the Pembrokeshire Coast has to offer.
Big Blue runs two courses:
Our BASIC SURFING LESSONS
last for 3 hours and cover the following:
- Beach Safety- Rocks, Rips, Crowds, Marine Life
- Warm-up
- Parts of the board
- Board handling
- Body positioning
- Steering
- Catching waves
- Paddling
- Standing up and foot positioning
Cost: £30pp
All boards are supplied; wetsuits can be hired for an additional £5 if required.

After this course it is recommended to hire or buy a board and practice catching waves and standing up before progressing on to the Improver Course.
When you are catching waves and standing up consistently then get in touch to arrange an improver session to take your surfing to the next level.
Our IMPROVER COURSE lasts for 3 hours and covers the following:
- Beach Safety- Theory of Tides, Wave types and Wind Influences
- Board types
- Paddling out back
- Wave Selection
- Riding the green wave
- Trim and steering
- Coaching
- Paddling
Cost £30pp
On completion of the improver course you will be armed with a greater knowledge of surfing and the ability to choose optimum conditions to help your progression. Then it is a just a question of practice, practice and practice.
All boards are supplied; wetsuits can be hired for an additional £5.
